Conceptual design studio Joon & Jung have created some amazing poetic objects and furniture. I love the 'Rocking on the beach' chair made with plastic pipes. Check the video to see how you can hear the sound of seashore while rocking on the chair. I also love the cloud stool. Joonsoo Kim and Jungyou Choi are from South Korea and met at the Design Academy of Eindhoven. I am always impressed by the work of designers coming out of this school.
I can't tell you how happy and proud I am of my little sister Charlotte. She has just been accepted at the Design Academy of Eindhoven!! She worked very hard to get through the different stages of selection. She made a fantastic portfolio from scratch with no previous art school training. Bravo ma Chacha. I can't wait to come to see you in Eindhoven next year.
A project like this one makes me happy. Let's colour project was launched by paint company Dulux Valentine to paint rather dull public places in bright and vivid colours. They have been working with local communities from these Cities (Rio, London, Jodhpur, Marseille, Paris and soon Istanbul) to paint their streets, schools and squares. The result in this video is really amazing.
We decided to celebrate Ophelia's birthday early this year so that she can have a party with her friends. Her actual birthday is 14th July - Bastille Day. She is very lucky to have fireworks every year here in France, but having her school friends around is always a bit difficult as everybody's off on holidays... So on Saturday we had 10 little girls, all face-painted in pink (of course!), lots of balloons, paper banners, music and games...Thanks Manou (Ophelia's grandma)for baking the amazing 'Ophelia's house' chocolate cake! She had a great afternoon. Us too but oh dear! we were so exhausted by the end. Now I understand why parents hire professionals to entertain their children and also the choice of doing the party away from your home makes a lot of sense!
My most challenging design is now all cut and printed! I tried to capture quirky characteristic in this big big world! There are lots of details so i'm sure you can spend hours in front of it looking for little people doing silly things!
The World Map is available to purchase on Famille Summerbelle website as a two-colour print in Night Sky and Azure Blue (size 50x70cm).
Work in progress while I was cutting the map on a single sheet of paper:
Thanks to all of you who came to see us at Pulse trade show at the beginning of the week. It was so nice to get such a positive response to our new prints and collection!
My latest map is now cut. It feels good to hold it up and see the finished product. It was my toughest challenge yet, to fit the entire world onto one sheet of paper - trying to keep a sense of scale, yet represent all that I love about each of the continents. I hope I got somewhere close..
There are lots of details and things to discover...The continents, seas (a challenge to paper-cut!), little quirky characters and animals are all linked together. I'm very happy with the result. This paper cut will become a 2 colour print, a little larger than our normal prints. I'll post an image of the final print next week, and if you're interested it'll be available to buy within a week or two.
